The Nicene Creed in a cornerstone of Christian docrtrine, at least for the demoninations that adhere to the Holy Trinity. As most things written long ago. I think it can do with a bit of an update to be more relevant to our modern world. Here is my attempt of doing just that.
| Nicene Creed | Stephen’s Take |
| We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen. | God = Life the universe and everything. |
| We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father; God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God; begotten not made, one in being with the Father. Through Him all things were made. | Jesus = God in human form = Us |
| For us men and for our salvation He came down from heaven. By the power of the Holy Spirit, He was born of the Virgin Mary and became man. | Jesus had a mother and was a human being. |
| For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered, died, and was buried. | Jesus was sentenced to death for being a threat to the powers at be, and that sentence was caried out. |
| On the third day He rose again, in fulfillment of the Scriptures. | Although this one man died. What he stood for lives on in all of us. |
| He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. | On his death, his spirit became one with the universe again (as will ours). |
| He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end. | We are the eternal embodiment of Jesus. |
| We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son, He is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets. | We are bound to the universe by an inexplicable force. This force is within all of us and can be harnessed to provide guidance and help us to be our best selves. |
| We believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. | All religions have equal standing, and we all have a responsibility to spread the faith. |
| We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. | We acknowledge our spiritual connectivity and take comfort in the knowledge that our spirits will live on when we leave our mortal bodies. |
